Angela Malik’s Cookery School

I first met Angela at the Cinnamon Club Diwali dinner 2011, having had social media, namely Twitter, to thank for the initial vicarious introduction. However, it’s always nicer to meet someone and shake their hand and say hello, like us humans used to do in the last century, and that extra human touch got me an invitation to Angela’s cookery school open day.

Located conveniently next to Acton Central overground station, I was quite surprised when I reached there. There I was, expecting good Indian food and the like, but what I was confronted with was even more exciting. Firstly, it’s a shop, selling ingredients, cooked foods, cakes, sauces and so on. The pleasant twist is that it’s not just limited to Indian food or ingredients – permanent appearances by Thai and Vietnamese make this shop quite unique!

.

And then there’s the case of the school – one can join a class to pretty much learn most aspects of Indian and South-East Asian food. Aimed at the general public rather than professionals, these classes are for those who have a passion for food, and like the social involvement that food brings.

.

The food itself is uncomplicated and a snip for anyone to make at home with brilliant results! And if you haven’t got the time to take a class, a trip down to the shop for some ingredients, some caramels or some chutneys and pickles is time well spent! Angela’s details are at the end of the photos.
